Some retail therapy recently on eBay where I found a lady selling old M&T patterns plus fabric pre-cut.  I didn’t need to buy in more fabric but I figured it would be worth buying a few of the patterns, which I’ll be able to make up several times. This is one I bought.  To make a little blue dress, published with the May 2016 issue of « Modes & Travaux ».

J’ai trouvé une vendeuse sur eBay qui vend des anciens patrons de M&T avec le tissu recommandé pour coudre le modèle en question.  Et j’ai acheté celui-ci, pour une petite robe bleue qui date de mai 2016.

And here is how the dress turned out.

Voilà le travail.

Very pleased with it, and the fit on Françoise, although I can’t really see the need for those pleats in the back and will do away with those next time I make the dress.  I already have plans to make a longer version for one of my Sylvia Natterer dolls. Stay tuned.

Pour ma Françoise, la taille est parfaite. Par contre, je ne suis pas convaincue de la nécessité des plis dans le dos . . . la prochaine fois, je ferai sans. Et il y aura une prochaine fois, car je vais allonger le patron et faire pour une des mes poupées Sylvia Natterer.  A très bientôt!

I said I was going to adapt a pattern to fit my 57cm SD doll, Inès (Luts) and I did -yay!  I took inspiration from a free pattern here: Antique Lilac, in MSD size and enlarged  by 130%.  Bodice is less fitted than it could be, so next time I’m going to enlarge by only 120% and lengthen the bodice.  For my  prototype, I’m happy with how things turned out.

J’ai dit que j’allais adapter un patron pour ma SD 57cm, Inès (Luts) et je l’ai fait – yay!  J’ai pris mon inspiration d’un patron gratuit chez Antique Lilac taille MSD et j’ai agrandi de 130%.  Le haut est toujours un peu large, et un peu court, donc la prochaine fois je vais agrandir à 120% mais ajouter à la longueur.  Pour mon prototype, je suis contente du résultat.

I hemmed at knee length, just to hide the joints, but I’m thinking it could look better a fraction shorter.   In the meantime . . . a few photos of my gorgeous Inès, in her new made-to-measure dress.

J’ai fait l’ourlet niveau genoux, juste assez pour cacher les articulations, mais peut-être que ça serait mieux plus courte.  En attendant, quelques photos de ma belle Inès, dans sa nouvelle robe, faite sur mesure.

 

 

trying on for size / des essayages

I seem to have been having a run with my vinyl dolls:  my Sylvia Natterer dolls and, more recently, my Françoise doll (Petitcollin – Modes & Travaux).  This is mainly because I’ve been trying out a few clothes making patterns and attempting to adapt to different body shapes.  Which then got me to thinking . . . if I can adapt patterns to fit those 3 different sized dolls, then surely I can adapt for my BJD dolls too.

Je me rends compte que j’ai passé beaucoup de temps ces dernières semaines à jouer avec mes poupées en vinyle : Sylvia Natterer et Françoise (Petitcollin – Modes & Travaux).  C’est surtout pour m’entrainer à coudre des vêtements et à adapter les patrons quand c’est nécessaire.  Du coup, je me suis dit que je devrais essayer d’adapter pour mes BJDs aussi.

I haven’t done any sewing yet BUT Inès, my 57cm SD BJD Luts  was brought out of her box to try on a few outfits.  First, trying on the jumpsuits I made for 44cm Starlette and 48cm Finouche dolls.

Je n’ai pas encore fait de couture pour ma poupée Inès:  SD BJD de 57cm de la marque Luts.  Mais j’ai voulu lui essayer les quelques vêtements que j’ai fait pour ma Starlette de 44cm et ma Finouche de 48cm.  En commençant avec le combi-pantalon.

On Inès, they look like this:

Sur Inès, ça donne.

Pretty.  A nice fit across the shoulders but too short in the body part and way too short in the legs.  Sleeves are too big too.

La couleur est jolie.  Mais un peu court dans le buste et beaucoup trop court dans les jambes. Les manches sont trop bouffants.

Next in the brown jumpsuit.

Dans la version en marron.

A much better fit on the body part, still too short in the leg.  Note to myself: the alterations I made to the jumpsuit pattern to fit my Finouche doll can be used for Inès. It’s just a question of cutting a longer leg.

Mieux niveau buste mais toujours trop court dans les jambes.  Ceci dit, ça sera facile de couper plus longue . . . alors je ferai un essai avec le patron que j’ai redessiné pour ma Finouche.

Next . . . a two piece outfit I made for a 48cm Finouche doll.  Tshirt being a Kidz ‘n Cats sized pattern and trousers being self-drafted.

Ensuite . . . un ensemble cousu pour, justement, une Finouche de 48cm.  Le Tshirt était un patron pour poupée Kidz ‘n Cats. Le pantalon, je l’ai dessiné moi-même.

First, on the doll it was made for.  Then on Inès.

D’abord sur la Finouche. Et ensuite sur Inès.

Now this should be fairly easy to adapt too.  The Tshirt is a little on the wide side, and trousers, once again are too short.  But it’s actually not a bad fit.

Hmmmm finalement, pas si mal que ça. Le Tshirt est un peu trop large, et le pantalon est trop court, mais je pense pouvoir adapter les patrons.

And then finally . . . not really expecting it to fit, I tried her with a cotton dress made to fit a Finouche doll.  The bodice is much too wide, would need bust darts and other tweaks. And the skirt . . . needs to be a lot longer.  For the following photo, I added a belt to pull things in, just to get the general idea.  A naked Finouche (the original dress owner) standing beside her to compare body shapes.

Et puis, en dernier . . . une robe cousue pour une Finouche qui ne va pas du tout à Inès sauf que le tissu est joli.  Là j’ai dû mettre une ceinture, mais le haut est vraiment énorme. Ce patron aura besoin d’être refait de zéro pour bien aller  à Inès.  Et la dernière photo pour vous montrer une Finouche nue, et la différence entres ces deux poupées.

I’m actually quite surprised, when you compare the two different bodies that any of the Finouche outfits fit Inès at all.

Quand on compare les deux poupées, je trouve étonnant que les tenus cousus pour les Finouches vont à Inès du tout!

 

the Modes & Travaux jumpsuit again / combinaison M&T encore.

I showed you a pink & blue floral jumpsuit I made for my Sylvia Natterer Starlette doll, Luella. Luella being taller (44cm) and a lot slimmer than the M&T Emilie doll, I made a few alterations.  After that success, I made a few different alterations, and made a second jumpsuit for my SN Finouche doll, Alix. (48cm)

Je vous ai montré le petit combinaison pantalon cousu pour Luella, ma Starlette de Sylvia Natterer.  Luella, étant plus fine, et plus grande (44cm) que la poupée Emilie de M&T j’ai dû faire quelques modifications.  Après ce premier succès, j’ai voulu en faire pour une poupée Finouche:  48cm.

Not quite sure if brown really suits her, but I made a matching headband as well.  And she borrowed Luella’s pink shoes to pick out those dainty pink flowers on the fabric.

Le tissu marron est peut être un peu terne pour Alix, mais je lui ai fait un petit serre-tête assorti, et elle a emprunté les chaussures roses de Luella.

I recently made myself a couple of cotton tunics, which means I have fabric scraps to turn to doll clothes making.  One of the fabrics called Retro Chic simply begged to be turned into a little dress for Françoise (Petitcollin – Modes & Travaux).

J’ai cousu quelques tuniques pour moi-même dernièrement ce qui veut dire que j’avais des chutes de tissus pour des projets poupées.  Un des tissus: Retro Chic, me semblait un bon choix pour Françoise (Petitcollin – Modes & Travaux).

I wanted to keep things easy, so drafted a simple lined bodice to fit Françoise (fingers crossed) and pleated a long rectangle for the skirt part.

Je cherchais juste à me faire la main, à dessiner un patron à la bonne taille. Bustier simple, mais doublé,, et pour la jupe, un longue rectangle avec des plis.

Didn’t manage to get pattern lined up at the waist line, but hey ho!  I was concentrating more on the fit.  And, what a lovely surprise . . . a pair of Disney Animator shoes fit Françoise and were the perfect colour to match (these are Mérida’s shoes).

Je n’ai pas réussi à bien aligner le motif du tissu, mais j’étais surtout occupée à coudre une robe à la bonne taille.  Et quelle bonne surprise!  Les chaussures qu’elle porte sont celle de Mérida, ma poupée Disney Animator.  Juste la bonne pointure et la bonne couleur!

Does it look like a dress little girls would have made for Françoise in the 1950s?  I  cut the skirt quite short because that seems to be what dolls were wearing then.  Maybe if I play around with the colours

Alors, est-ce qu’on dirait le genre de robe que cousaient les petites filles pendant les années 50?  J’ai coupé la jupe assez courte parce que c’est que portaient les poupées de l’époque.  Peut -être s’il je bidouille un peu les couleurs.
