More doll dress kniting . . . with a pattern bought on etsy, designed for 18″ dolls.

Encore une petite robe tricotée, en modifiant le patron acheté sur etsy pour des poupées de 48cm.

I used a finer yarn and knit with a 3mm needle to make it a nice fit for my Glitter Girl, Nelly, who measures approx 36cm.

J’ai utilisé une laine plus fine donc des aiguilles de 3mm pour adapter à ma Glitter Girl, Nelly, qui mesure environ 36cm..  

Also played around with Nelly’s hair.  Just out of the box she looked like this

Et je me suis amusée avec ses cheveux.  Sortie de la boîte Nelly ressemblait à ceci.

I’ve set her hair free!

J’adore sa coiffure plus naturelle, comme cela. Je la trouve plus belle et ses cheveux sont très doux. 

I think she looks so much prettier and her hair is lovely and soft.

I’ve been playing with yarn, and trying out a couple of things with some patterns.  Happy Bankky offers free crochet patterns to make a little top and skirt for 14″ dolls (that I’ve made before).  More recently, I decided to roll one pattern into the other and see if I could crochet a dress.  I did it using a very fine thread on a 2mm hook for my Kruselings doll – which you’ve seen.

Je m’amuse à faire des essais avec des patrons et du fils.  Happy Bankky offre des patrons gratuits pour crocheter un petit haut et jupe pour des poupées de 36cm.  Je vous ai déjà montré cet essai:  avec un fil très fin, où j’ai crocheter la jupe tout de suite sur le haut, avec un crochet 2mm pour ma petite Kruselings.

So I picked up a 4mm hook, and some Stylecraft DK for a repeat performance in a larger size.

Ensuite j’ai pris un fil moyen et un crochet de 4mm pour répéter la performance en plus grand.

A few adjustments in body length, making it slightly longer for Nelly, my Glitter Girls doll.  For Cristi, my Paola Reina Las Amigas girl, I also used a size 4mm hook, but kept tension slightly tighter. And a couple of embellishments too. I also crocheted a little head band for Nelly – colour chosen for her dress to try and match her original shoes.

Quelques ajustements numéro de rangées, pour faire la robe un peu plus longue sur Nelly, ma Glitter Girls. Pour Cristi, ma Las Amigas de Paola Reina, j’ai gardé ma tension un peu plus serrée. Quelques embellissements, et un petit « ruban » pour les cheveux de Nelly. 

Then, I wondered about crocheting the little top, but giving it a frill at the bottom.

Ensuite, j’ai eu envie de refaire le haut, mais avec la fronce en bas. Cela fait joli aussi.

That looks really cute too!  And I knitted a tunic top in PR Las Amigas size, using a 2.5mm needle, sock yarn, and following a pattern by CSKraft4Dolls written for Disney Animator. For DA pattern required a DK yarn and a 3.75mm needle, but in sock yarn, on a 2.5mm needle, that worked too!

Et puis, avec un patron tricot de CDKraft4Dolls, acheté sur etsy en taille Disney Animator . . . j’ai joué avec l’épaisseur du fil, taille des aiguilles et nombre de rangées pour tricoter un tunique pour une Las Amigas.  Tricoté avec une laine à chaussette (en coton) avec des aiguilles 2,5mm.  

Next job will be to sit down at my sewing machine and make a couple of pairs of trousers/shorts for these dolls . . . and they all need some new shoes!

Prochains projets:  coudre des shorts/corsaires/pantalons pour ces quatre poupées afin de les habiller correctement, et faire des chaussures.

 

Glitter Girls Nelly comparison /comparaison

The other day, I showed you photos of a Glitter Girls doll: Nelly.  Today I come to share photos as I compare her to some of my similar sized dolls.

L’autre jour je vous ai présenté une poupée Glitter Girls, Nelly. Aujourd’hui, je veux la comparer à d’autres poupées d’environ la même taille.

First photo is something of an unfair comparison.  Here’s Nelly with Luella (a Sylvia  Natterer Starlette) on one side, and Ava (a Sylvia Natter Minouche) on the other.  I say it’s an unfair comparison because SN dolls are not in the same price range, have painted eyes, elasticated joints which gives for better poseability, and you can’t really compare a 80€ doll with a 20€ doll.  Saying that, it does give you an idea of size.

Première photo n’est pas une comparaison équitable.  Voici Nelly avec Luella (une Starlette de Sylvia Natterer) et Ava (une Minouche de Sylvia Natterer).  Ce n’est pas une comparaison équitable parce que les poupées SN coûtent beaucoup plus cher, ont des yeux peints, et des joints avec élastique, donc posent mieux. On ne devrait pas comparer une poupée de 80€ avec une de 20€ . . . mais on voit quand même que Nelly est pile-poils entre les deux tailles.

Second photo comparing with two Disney Animators – more or less the same height, but DA dolls have very large heads and chubby bodies.  They are more similar in price though. A brand new DA costing 28€ (from the official Disney Shop).

Deuxième photo avec deux Disney Animators – plus ou moins la même taille mais les DA n’ont pas du tout les même proportions. Cependant, niveau prix, à 28€ (dans la boutique officielle Disney) on est plus dans le même budget.

On the left, for this photo, a Paola Reina Las Amigas.  A naked LA doll costs approx 20€, so price-wise, we’re getting close.  No clothes in this photo, because I wanted to look at body shape.  Not a very flattering photo for Nelly, in my opinion.  Her body isn’t her best feature, and the shiney plastic doesn’t help.  I also think it’s a shame that Battatt didn’t give GG dolls painted knickers, like on the Disney doll.

A gauche dans cette photo, une Las Amigas de Paola Reina (qui coûte environ 20€ sans vêtements, alors question prix, on peut comparer).  Pas de vêtements, parce que je voulais comparer les corps et proportions.  Photo pas flatteuse pour Nelly, à mon avis.  Son corps me parait trop longue, et ce plastique qui brille n’arrange pas les choses.  Dommage que Battatt n’ait pas fait « culotte peinte » comme sur la poupée Disney.

Next, is when I started trying on clothes for size.  Here is Nelly wearing the strawberry dress I made for Ava (SN Minouche).  I wouldn’t have believed it to look at them, but the dress is surprisingly good fit.

Ensuite, on a fait des essayages.  D’abord, Nelly qui essaie la robe fraise, faite pour Ava (SN Minouche).  J’étais très étonnée de voir à quel point ça lui va bien!

The same goes for Ava’s skirt & crocheted top!  And, as I see Nelly wearing clothes other than her original GG outfit, I’m finding her prettier by the minute!

Cela marche aussi avec la jupe et petit haut d’Ava.  Et je dois dire, que voir Nelly porter des vêtements autres que sa tenue originale . . . je la trouve de plus en plus jolie!

And to prove my theory . . . I dressed Nelly up in the outfit & sandals I made for Cristi (Las Amigas) and poor Cristi had to wear the GG outfit.  Apart from being too long for Cristi, it really looks quite horrendous whereas Nelly is looking pretty as a picture, wearing a homemade outfit.

Et pour vérifier ma thérorie . . . voici Nelly qui porte la tenue et sandales faites pour Cristi (Las Amigas) et la pauvre Cristi qui porte la tenue GG.  A part le fait que tout est trop longue,/grand . . . c’est le style et couleurs qui font « poupée » (et moche) parce Nelly est jolie comme tout dans la tenue fait-maison.

I’ve removed the golden glittery hair clip . . . and am still surprised how Nelly can actually wear clothes made for SN Minouche and Las Amigas dolls when she looks so much bigger & taller . . . she’s beginning to grow on me!

J’ai retiré le nœud de ses cheveux, . . . et je ne m’explique pas comment Nelly peut porter des vêtements taille SN Minouche ou Las Amigas quand elle a pourtant l’air beaucoup plus grande . . . mais je commence à la trouver mignonne!

Still not as cute as the Las Amigas dolls (which do fall into the same price category, so it’s fair to compare).  But I do think she has a pretty face, with those big glittery eyes.

Je ne la trouve pas aussi mignonne que les Las Amigas (qui sont au même prix, alors on peut vraiment comparer).  Mais Nelly a quand même un joli visage, avec ses grands yeux qui scintillent.

Glitter Girls (Battatt) – Nelly

I’ve just bought a new doll, purely in the interests of science!  When browsing, looking for possible clothes patterns for my Paola Reina Las Amigas dolls, I saw that patterns for 14″ dolls such as Wellie Wishers, and Glitter Girls could be suitable.  WW don’t seem to be easily available in France, and GG aren’t much easier to find. However, I did manage to find the above on @m@zon.fr for the reasonable price of 20.60€.  I’m also thinking ahead, to when our grand daughter in the UK will be old enough to want to play with dolls . . . and preferably a doll that grandma could make clothes & shoes for!

Je viens d’acheter une nouvelle poupée, purement dans l’intérêt de la science, vous comprenez!  En cherchant des patrons pour faire des vêtements pour mes Las Amigas, de Paola Reina, j’ai vu que les poupées Wellie Wisher et Glitter Girls, sont très similaires en taille.  Les WW sont quasi-introuvables en France.  Les GG ne sont pas faciles à trouver non plus mais j’ai réussi à trouver la demoiselle ci-dessus sur @m@zon.fr pour 20,60€. Je regarde aussi plus loin, en pensant à notre petite fille, en Angleterre. Pour le moment elle est encore jeune, mais quand elle sera en âge de vouloir jouer à la poupée, une pour laquelle grand-mère pourrait coudre des vêtements et fabriquer des chaussures, serait préférable!

Glitter Girls are 36cm tall, made by Battatt (a Canadian company although the dolls themselves are made in China).  They have bendable arms & legs.  Come in various hair & eye colours, each doll wearing an outfit & glittery shoes.  This one is Nelly, a dark-skinned doll with very curly hair.  Sadly she was missing her plastic braclet/watch.  If I were a 5 year old, or the mother of a 5 year old, that might have caused a few tears . . . but I’m not going to ask for a refund simply because doll was missing an accessory.

Glitter Girls mesurent 36cm, et sont de la marque Battatt (une compagnie Canadienne, même si les poupées sont fabriquées en Chine).  Elles ont les bras et jambes flexibles.  Elles existent avec une variété de couleur d’yeux, et cheveux. Elles sont vendues déjà habillées et avec des chaussures qui scintillent. Celle que j’ai pu trouver s’appelle Nelly, une poupée à la peau sombre avec des cheveux très bouclés. Malheureusement, il manquait le petit bracelet en plastique dans le paquet.  Si j’étais une petite fille de 5 ans, ou la maman d’une fille de 5 ans, il y aurait eu sans doute quelques larmes . . . mais je ne vais pas renvoyer la poupée pour cela.

She has acrylic eyes that are always open.  And rather a garish outfit, but considering these are play dolls for ages 3 and above . . . I think she’s rather good value for money.

Elle a des yeux acrylique, toujours ouverts.  Ses vêtements sont un peu tape à l’œil, mais si on considère que ce sont des poupées pour jouer, destinées à des enfants de 3 ans et plus . . . je pense qu’elle est plutôt bien pour le prix.

What I’m not so keen on is her body.  While her face & limbs are made of a nice soft type of vinly,, the body is a very hard & shiney plastic.  To make it worse, there’s an unsightly tag inserted into the side of her body.  Also, rather disappointed to see she didn’t have any knickers on, under her leggings.

Ce qui je n’aime pas trop c’est son corps.  Son visage et membres sont en vinyle assez doux, mais son corps est en plastique rigide et il brille.  En plus, il y a une étiquette coincé dans le corps.   Autre point négatif: elle ne portait pas de petite culotte sous ses leggings.

Luckily I had some spare knickers and the label is more or less tucked away out of sight.  That’s all for now.  I’ll be back in a few days time with more photos to show how Nelly compares to some of my other dolls.

Par chance, j’avais une culotte à lui mettre, et l’étiquette est cachée.  Voilà pour aujourd’hui. Je ferai un deuxième post dans quelques jours pour montrer comment Nelly se compare avec mes autres poupées.
