For Christmas, I asked for an Antonio Juan baby doll: Alejandra « my first reborn » 52cm. These dolls are made in Spain. She came in a lovely presentation box, with bottle and dummy, and wearing a gorgeous outfit: knitted cardie, hat & matching booties. Underneath, a very pretty dress and matching bloomers.

Pour Noël, j’ai demandé un poupon Antonio Juan: Alejandra « mon premier reborn » de 52cm. Les poupées Antonio Juan sont fabriquées en Espagne. Elle est arrivée dans une jolie boîte avec son biberon et tétine. Elle porte un très joli ensemble: gilet, bottines et bonnet en tricot, ainsi qu’une robe et culotte en coton.

This is not a genuine reborn doll, but it is a very well-made doll for a reasonable budget.

Ce n’est pas un vrai reborn (dans le vrai sens du terme) mais c’est un très joli poupon pour un budget plus que raisonnable.

I’ve christened her Anya. She doesn’t have hair, therefore probably looks best with a hat, but she has a lovely face.

Je l’appelle Anya. Elle n’a pas de cheveux, ce qui fait qu’elle est plus jolie avec son bonnet, mais elle a un visage et regard très doux.

She has blue glass eyes.

Elle a des yeux bleus, en verre.

Lovely chubby limbs in soft vinyl.

I’ve been enjoying more knitting for baby dolls. After the cardie in green, I knitted a second in orange (slightly bigger) and then made hats to match. The green cardie which I showed the other day on Lily, is really for Noah, my newborn Berenguer doll who is premie size.

Je m’amuse toujours autant avec mes aiguilles à tricoter. Après le petit gilet en vert (qui est en fait pour Noah, mon tout petit), j’ai tricoté un bonnet . . .

And the orange version is for Lily./ Et puis, une version (légèrement plus grand) en orange, pour Lily.

Having such fun with this cardie pattern that I’ve cast on to knit another one (in pink) because Father Christmas is bringing me a new baby doll soon!

J’ai été très sage cette année, et j’espère trouver un nouveau poupon sous le sapin . . . du coup je travaille déjà sur une troisième version, en rose!

After several knitting projects for my Sylvia Natterer, Disney Animator and Françoise doll, it was time to turn my attention to baby dolls.

Après plusieurs projets tricot, pour mes poupées Sylvia Natterer, Disney Animator et Françoise de M&T, il était temps de tricoter pour mes bébés.

The advantage of baby dolls being that they are the same size as real human babies, so there are lots of patterns easily available online. This little cardie is a pattern called « Little Avery’ by Taiga Hillard Designs and available as a free download on Ravely.

L’avantage, quand on veut tricoter pour une poupée « reborn » c’est qu’on trouve facilement des patrons pour vrais bébés. Ce patron, qui s’appelle « Little Avery », par Taiga Hillard Designs, est disponible gratuitement (en anglais) sur Ravelry.

I knitted the smallest size 0-3 months, on slightly smaller needles than the pattern suggested, because several of my dolls are on the very small size. Here is Lily modelling a green, blue, yellow & white version.

J’ai tricoté la taille 0-3 mois sur des aiguilles plus fines de recommandées, car Lily, est assez menue, et d’habitude porte taille naissance. La voici avec son nouveau gilet version vert, bleu, jaune et blanc.

I’ve already started work on a second cardie, and plan on knitting a matching hat & booties too.

J’ai déjà commencé une deuxième version, et j’ai l’intention de tricoter petit bonnet et bottines assortis.

Noah – Berenguer newborn (Berenguer nouveau né)

Today I want to introduce you to little Noah, who is the first vinyl baby in my collection. He’s a Berenguer newborn that I bought second hand (13€ including p&p). Berenguer is a Spanish doll manufacturer who specialise in very life-like baby dolls, destined as toys for children. However, they are quite realistic and often used, as a cheaper option, for “reborning”. If you’re curious, you can see a variety of new Berenguer dolls here: Born to be kids. And if you want to see what “reborning” is all about, I suggest you visit cocochello, who does the most amazing work.

Aujourd’hui je vous montre Noah, le premier poupon en vinyle de la collection. C’est un poupon Berenguer nouveau-né, que j’ai acheté d’occas (pour 13€ FDPC). Berenguer est un fabriquant de poupée espagnol, leurs poupées étant déstinées aux enfants, comme jouet. Cependant, le poupon Berenguer est assez recherché dans le monde du “reborning” comme option un peu moins cher que les kits spécialisés. Je vous invite à visiter Born to be kids (boutique en France) pour voir la séléction de poupées Berenguer, et aussi d’admirer le travail de cocochello qui, elle, fait du vrai “reborning”.

When I bought this doll, he came in his original outfit, and measured approximately 36cm. Quand je l’ai acheté, ce poupon mesurait environ 36cm, était entièrement en vinyle, et avait ses vêtements d’origine.

It took me a while to build up the courage to do what I planned to do when buying him. That’s to say, taking him apart, discarding the vinyl body, and making a new cloth body. I actually ended up making 2 bodies, using a pattern by Ragdoll Fairy. For the first body, I followed pattern for a finished 16” doll (40cm) but I wasn’t happy. I therefore made a second body, following pattern for a 17” finished doll (43cm). I used brown cotton fabric, to keep it as close as possible to doll’s skin colour.

Il m’a fallu un certain temps pour prendre mon courage à deux mains, le désassembler, et à confectionner un corps en tissu. En fait, j’en ai fait deux, car le premier corps était un peu trop petit à mon goût. Le patron est par Ragdoll Fairy, et j’ai utilisé un coton couleur chocolat pour rester au plus près de la couleur des membres.

Little Noah therefore grew from 36cm to around 43cm, but it’s a bit difficult to tell because of bent legs. I weighted head, limbs and body, so he weighs in at just over 1.5 kilos. And he’s big enough to wear size 0-1 month baby clothes.

Avec son nouveau corps, le petit Noah est passé de 36cm à 43cm . . . et après lestage de la tête, membres et corps, son poids est environ 1,5 kg. Il est assez grand pour pouvoir être habillé en taille naissance-1 mois.

What I love about this Berenguer doll, is the way his eyes actually seem to be looking & focusing on things. In the right light, I think Noah looks very realistic.

Ce que j’adore avec ce poupon Berenguer, c’est qu’il semble vraiment regarder autour de lui et fixer des objets. Avec la bonne luminosité, Noah a l’air d’un vrai bébé.
